Jung Byun Lau
Senior Lead Data Scientist, Booz Allen Hamilton
Jung Byun Lau currently works as a Senior Lead Data Scientist at international consulting firm, Booz Allen Hamilton, where she analyzed national public education data and policies to improve public education support for military families. She has also served as a Summer Fellow in the New York City Department of Education for Education Pioneers in 2017. Her passion for public service and empowering underrepresented communities grew as she ran for School Board in Fairfax County in 2019. Jung went on to help start Embolden, a nonprofit that empowers underrepresented high school students to explore diverse careers through cost-free programs. She is passionate about using data in unexpected ways to improve large government organizations, especially in public education.
Before moving to Fairfax in 2014, Jung attended Carnegie Mellon University, where she received her Bachelor of Science in Mathematical Science with a concentration in Statistics and Operational Research. Her achievements in technology, engineering and math, serving her community, and mentoring others is nationally recognized as a 2019 Women of Color in STEM Rising Star Award Recipient.
